I’m going to bore you all silly with the growing of cockscomb plants again this year.
It’s starting very well with incredibly quick germination. Only 4 days for my self saved Bombay bronze and 5 days for crystal beauty.
I’ve sown a lot more this year. I may have got carried away!
I’ll do a little experimenting with the Bombay bronze as I have so many. I’m going to pinch a couple out again even though I know that’s not what you’re supposed to do. Because one the plants I did that to last year. Produced some stunning stem for my jam jar bunches. But the other really did nothing. So I’ll have another go this year with a couple of them. I’m also going to plant a few of them close together. And a couple in their own pots.

A little update on the cockscomb. Both varieties are doing well.
Crystal beauty
Bombay bronze
Still too early to pinch out. But will definitely separate one off soon .

First Bombay bronze producing a flower. Don’t think it’s going to come to much. The plant is still small.

They are all doing well.
Bombay bronze. Starting to flower nicely
Crystal beauty. Growing a lot slower, no sign of flowers yet. All 5 looking healthy. ( the one in the pot in the middle is a Bombay bronze

As it turns out I didn’t keep you that updated with the growing of Bombay & crystal cockscomb this year.
What I have learned is Bombay bronze as last year was wonderful. Today I picked the last of them apart from one. which is for seeds. They are now Hanging up, drying for a friend’s Christmas present (hopefully).
Camera isn’t overly fond of them. Not changed any settings and the colour is wildly different from one photo to the other (one taken half way down garden one taken at bottom of garden within minutes so light levels hadn’t changed) real colour of them is some where between the 2 .
This is going to create next years seeds
a massive flower. Actually the colour on this individual is accurate.
As for crystal beauty cockscomb. I won’t be bothering again.
Taken a very long time to do very little. In fact only 1 of the 5 plants has produced anything of any usable quality.

They are amazing flowers, I can see why you want to grow them, but they remind me of a cauliflower fungus. https://www.wildfooduk.com/mushroom-guid...er-fungus/

Isn't the structure fascinating. They're beautiful. I also like the structure of romanesco cauliflowers they remind me of fractals.
