I usually grow from sets, although I did sow some seed this year. Having run out of room and planted more sets that I needed, the seedlings are still in their pot, looking a little worse for wear. I think I'll stick with sets next year.

Much the same as everyone else, so far. I did sow some seeds last year, but couldn't be bothered to prick them out/pot them up etc - so bought sets. Either Sturon or Stuttgarter and Centurion from a cheap shop. They're doing great too.

Thanks folks not really surprised by your responses.

Do you plant/sow end or new year?

Both...but this years autumn planted sets bolted, due to the wet start of the year and then the early heat. Always get better results from spring planted sets

Haven't really tried from seed - this year has been my best from sets - winter grown some japanese red onions and then bog standard white sets at the start of the year.
spuds have been terrible but at least I can grow onions...
