Just wondering how many varieties of each veg do you grow - for example - 6 different tomatoes, 3 sorts of courgettes etc..........and why?

Courgettes - usually three types, a green, a yellow and a round
Tomatoes - too many to count, because I love them all. Probably ten varieties this year, but I'd double that for next year, easy.
Beans - two or three climbing, a couple of green beans, purple, podding beans....
Squash - patty pans white and yellow, spaghetti, trombo, two or three 'normal' ones
Can't think of anymore!

I've looked at this last season's records and I'm amazed at the results and I'm asking the question 'why?' and I have no answer other than curiosity. There are always the firm favourites then the addition of others in the vain hope of finding yet another firm favourite.

Tomatoes 35 who needs that many different toms? In my defence not all thrived
Beans CFB/DFB 11
Courgettes 10
Peas 4
Beetroot 5
Chard 4
Carrots 6
Cucumber 2

I've been trying to answer my own question.........
Tomatoes - 4 early ones, 2 bush big ones, 2 cherry vines and several others just to see what they're like
Courgettes - one early one & 2/3 others depending on what seeds need using up.
Carrots - one short one in the GH and one or two others in pots/ground.
Cucumber - Beth Alpha and another one
Mangetout - Bijou and another one
Peas - dwarf one and a couple of tall ones
CFBs about 6 different ones
Runners - one, maybe two.
Squashes - who knows - they never grow.

Easy one for me to answer. Either one, two or at most three cultivars of each. Smile Done all my trials in the past so only add an odd experimant now and again.

You've already planned next season SC, respect. I've not really started except looking at possible toms. I never stick to the plan anyway and end up with a semi random garden, I'm channelling my Veggie vibe. Smile
