Japanese anenomes

I've been given a root of japanese anemones either white or pinkish and quite tall.

Are they thugs and run rampant? I understand they prefer partial shade. I'll have to be mindful of where I plonk it.

They do spread but not excessively. They are quite tall - 5' or so - so choose your site carefully. I like my clump.

I’ve recently acquired a pinkish one as well   . Just yesterday I noticed 2 new levels on it. So I’m very happy.

They look lovely growing but don’t last in the vase. I leave mine to enjoy in the garden and later the

Thank you all. I don't have a very big flower bed, that, combined with very little style sense, means it's chaotic and lacks design. I'm hoping to improve it in the future, but don't hold your breath.

Yes they are thugs! I find that the pink one is worse than the white one. They send out runners and will regrow from the smallest bit of root. The main plant root is huge and difficult to get out if you need to. My pink one gets to about 5ft plus and the white one not as tall. Having said all that they are lovely!!

I have a few clumps, they've spread very slowly in partial shade (heavy clay), but couldn't cope with the heat and didn't flower at all this year.
My mum had them everywhere, spreading like mad, she was on thin gravel soils.

Could be worth putting some bamboo barrier around the clump to stop them spreading. They're good for bees in the autumn, but they do love to pop up in awkward places. Probably one of those plants that Gardener's World recommended to everyone back in the day without telling them how much they spread.
