I popped into Wilko this morning and all their seeds were on further clearance, both own brand and Johnson's. Many were 5p so I picked up things I knew I needed like cress, basil, nasturtiums (for the tortoise), sweet peas and lettuce. Also some runner beans and broad beans for 30p.
Well worth having a look at those prices.

Franchi seeds have reduced some short dated seeds and I've had an email chat with Paolo Arrigo, the Franchi Boss. I'll copy it here as the comparison between Franchi and the other seed retailers is remarkable .
1. The mail shot:-
Energy crisis price buster - Franchi varieties from 50p (Saving up to £2) good for one season. Most companies would dispose of these - not us.
We won't incinerate shorter date seeds, especially during a crisis. Good for next season, grow your own food, save £'s
It is common practice to dispose of seed that has not been sold from the previous season but to us this doesn't make sense, especially during a crisis (pick your crisis at the moment - energy, Ukraine, brexit, environmental, covid etc). We have never done this. These packets expire 06.2023 and are fine to sow for one season, saving around £2 in most cases. Limited to 4 packs per variety until stocks last. More varieties will be added as we find them so you can grow your own food cheaply without waste.
2. I spotted a typo on the price of some pea seed £89.00 when it should have been 89p. I sent them an email last night :-
Hi,
You might like to check the price of the Piccolo Provencale peas., currently offered at £89.00.
I'll buy some when the price comes down!
Thanks
3.
Thanks so much for pointing it out, of course a tiny typo making a massive difference. Correct now! Slightly embarrassing!
All the best

We all make mistakes, even the best of us.!! Thanks for making these seeds available for growing and not binning. Cheers
5.Honestly, I think it is a sin. They could send them to Ukraine or Pakistan or old peoples homes or something but that would impact on profits so…..
All the best
Paolo
6. Your heart is in the right place, Thank you for everything that you do.
Unfortunately, I don't buy your seeds very often - because the packets are so generously filled - unlike some of the other companies with 5 or 10 seeds for an extortionate amount.
7. That’s good though Carole, you get a proper quantity. Seeds are a resource and we specialise in endangered, heritage, ethical and regional varieties. Some old ones (About 220 we think including the endangered one) and some modern ethical ones, a nice mix I think.
And still the same family since 1783…

Can you imagine Mr Thompson or Mr Morgan replying almost immediately? Can't even get a reply from their Customer Services.
Needless to say, I've bought some seeds.
