Mark, how do you avoid pea moth grubs?

I sow just the once, fairly early in April, this year 2 x 20' rows and a bit on one side. I planted them out at end of April with first picking on 28th June. Last year I picked peas 10 times, roughly every other day. The last few pickings tend to have a few grubs in but not too many. Last year I left 4' of row to ripen for seeds and this year am doing the same again. When I pick the dried peas, there is usually a lot more grub damage but as long as they leave me about 700 good seeds I don't mind too much.

I used to sow in succession, a few each week but found the later crops were not worth picking sometimes. I find it a lot easier now to just pick, pod into a plastic bag and then straight into the freezer. I used to spend time and energy blanching a lot of different veg but now don't bother and can't taste any difference

I picked a load of my white onions, the amount of rain these last few days was causing the outer skins to crack and split so I lifted any where the stalks were down and starting to colour yellow. Also some of the ones the crows attacked.

Coffee keeps me busy until it’s acceptable to drink whiskey.

my first potatoes of the season grown from a rogue potato in the bed from last year, I got over 2kg from one plant, 4 huge potatoes and 7 regular size and only 2 bitty ones for the composter.

We are having 1 each of the huge ones for dinner, I was able to cut them in 4.

Hi also harvested some carrots from the tunnel and a head of cabbage from the garden.

Tomatoes, 4 courgettes (sorry Scarlet). Mangetout, DFB and the first of the CFB (Hunter).
I carefully picked the CFB and put them in the basket, standing on end inside a container. Turned my back to pick some more when Ted saunters over, selects the longest of the beans and eats it. Meanwhile, Bess and Spud are picking their own pea pods.
I suppose it makes a change from pinching raspberries. Wink
