I've planted out all my kale, squashes,  courgettes, peas and beans in my new beds. It's beginning to look a lot like a veggie garden

I have a few more pots to plant out, mainly flowers, and then I can go on holiday tomorrow and not worry too much Smile

Planted out some small lettuce seedlings and a couple of scraggy tomatoes in odd places where I could find a bit of bare soil. Planted out some flower tubs. It was too hot for anything too strenuous.

PS I now have hot water. YAY.

Best news I've heard all day, JJB.Big Grin

Today's Big Jobbie was cutting down a plum tree and a Sweet Chestnut. Neither of them are productive and they were so tall that they shaded the dwarf fruit trees, which was making them leggy.
The trees were chainsawed down but I have to clean up the branches and sort them into log thickness or shredding thickness. Need to do it soon as they're blocking the path and some are on top of useful plants - like rosemary and elephant garlic (Imagine a flattened elephant - its nothing like that Big Grin).
I have a few more "trees" in line for the chop - some suckering plums, hazels and young ash. Maybe later this week once I've cleared this lot of debris.

Woke up early and planted out the sweetcorn (Earlibird) and the remaining winter squash (Marina di Chioggia, butternut Waltham, acorn squash Harlequin, Table King and Festival).

Also found space for some tomatoes (Black Cherry, Tigerella and Brad's Atomic) and potted up a mini bell pepper (Orange Snack).

I'm sure you checked all your trees for nests, veggie Wink

Yesterday watered, watered, watered and then when the side of the house was in the shade started weeding the border. Then watered a bit more. Another 35 degree day.
This morning began with a bit of watering, but it is proving a struggle to keep some young plants alive. We'd hit 38 by 13.00, I haven't looked since. Paperwork day!

Spent some time this morning, as I seem to do every day, tying in and armpitting tomatoes. Isn't it amazing that even though I did it yesterday, I can still find a 4 inch armpit somewhere. Then there's the dilemma of finding a spur 8 inches long that had gotten missed. Do I leave it and double stem the tomato or chop it out? Decisions, decisions.
Planted out flowers today in the very drippy heat. Must water them all in tonight

Thinned out carrots.
Weeded beetroot & broccoli
Planted out last of my beans.
Unloaded another trailer load of scaffolding.
Builder that would like to go play in the garden.

The branches were too thin and whippy to support a nest, PP. Definitely devoid of nests.

Tonight all the branches were shredded and piled into a compost bin until I decide what to do with them.  Its been too hot during the day to do much outdoors but this evening, was perfect.
Rain forecast for tomorrow - hope so as my courgettes need a drink.

Yesterday just watered evening and morning. Moved some pricked out lettuces and cabbages indoors as they were collapsing even in the shade (as were we Sad ) The weather station gave us a high of 42, but it over-reads a few degrees, on the terrace the old fashioned mercury sat at 38.

Today, watered this morning and emptied the last water butt. I feel guilty using tap water on the veg garden, daft really as so many folks use it to fill swimming pools.
Emptied out two pots of spring bulbs, one pot will have a dahlia put in it next week. The bulbs will go into the meadow grass in the autumn.
