Planted out french climbing beans, soisson yesterday. a bit early but they were getting cramped in the seed tray, there are no frosts forecast and they do take a long time to mature so the sooner in the better. I put in supports (about 8' being optimistic) and still need to attach a net for them to climb.
I planted out courgettes today about 8. Some green bush but the labels had come off the others. I thought i had cleared all the couch from the area but when i dug out planting holes I found quite a few lengths still hiding so I expect some more will come up soon.
I prepared most of the ground for planting out the dahlias and chrysanthemums. There were a lot of bitter cress with quite plump seed pods that ended up on the other side of the road.

Weeded and mulched with grass clippings - hops, vines, ginkgo, figs, hugelkultur bed. Dumped the rest on the not yet planted new bank bed.
Weeded the gravel in front of the gates.
Cut back a red robin between us and a neighbour, plus a couple of other shrubs that were making it difficult to cut the grass.
Clipped a hedge again that's growing out over the steps.
Cut back brambles and blackthorn invading a wild flower area.

Final task of the day was scurrying round protecting tenders. TV are saying temps of 2 or 3 under clear skies. I thought I had finished with this malarkey! Had to phone the recipients of the tomatoes to warn them of cold temps tonight ( they're not very experienced gardeners).

Quick question, I bought some tall planters to put flowers in, they are obviously going to take a lot of compost. Would this work?…I’ve got small pots with tete a tete in them, they reach about half way up the tall planters. Could I put them in the tall planter, fill up with compost and add bedding plants. Would the tete a tete grow through in spring?
Probably! Sounds like bulb lasagna planting where you layer bulbs in pots, smallest bulbs nearest the top, bigger, usually tulips, at the bottom.
Another option would be to put something in the bottom of the tall pot - polystyrene chunks, broken flower pots, any old garden soil. Then the daffs, which are probably dying back now. Cover with some compost and bedding plants. Thanks Veggie, advice taken on board!

Yesterday. Moved the brassica cage to the next bed along after removing the cold frame that was on that bed. Shuffled plants around and mulched with grass. Watered GH beds they were really dry with water again later today, then toms can be plated tomorrow.

Planted 7 tomato plants in GH2 - Goosecreek x2, Resi x1, Jen's Tangerine x1. Gardener's Ecstasy x2 and San Marzano x1.
Trying something different this year for training the toms. Have put bamboo canes in each pot (as usual) but, run another cane to the apex of the roof so that I can attach any top growth immediately without messing about with bits of string.
Emptied a bag of haylage into the Cube that was dumped outside and another bag into an almost empty compost bin. I had to find homes for this as the bags were in the way in the GH and the smell was a bit overpowering!
