2022 - What I did today

Beautiful and busy day again - moved and juggled seedlings off the heat mat into the light of the living room. No more room.
Potted on some pumpkins; germinated less than a week ago but already planning World domination!
Sowed more parsley.
Strimmed veg garden paths.
Pricked out 3 gardener's delight tomatoes for the seed leaf versus true leaf test.
Laid two slabs in the gravel beside the deck to create a new path.
Weeded all the pots on the deck.
Removed blanket weed from the pond.

I’m going to join the experiment and prick out a few seed leaf tomatoes. Mine are very leggy, so it’s worth a try.

Not a very good experimenter I’m afraid. I got carried away with my Galina toms and pricked out all sixteen seedlings at seed leaf stage. Keeping my fingers crossed that I haven’t b**gered up the lot!

No gardening. Looking out over the sea in Ryde on a bright sunny day. Going for a walk along the coastline later.

Sounds like a perfect day!

Dogs, logs and hogs!
More debrambling of the bank between the house garden and the chicken run.
Cut down a laurel bush and elder tree to open up that area. Over the years that corner has been a dumping ground for branches and logs and I want to clear it out. Unfortunately, the dogs decided to hunt through the logs and found a big hedgehog. I hope its going to be OK. I've put a "roof" over it and enclosed the area with some wire fence that I removed a few days ago. Looks like that area won't be cleared after all but become a hedgehoggery.
House garden grass mowed for the first time this year. Have to wait until he snowdrops are finished.

Made up another hardening off bench and put everything from the tunnels outside for the day. Planted some sacrificial plants on the bank at the plot. Aubretia, orange hawkbit , creeping thyme.

   

We’ll see if any of them survive the sheep & deer. 

Gave the gate another coat of oil. Shaving bark off some more branches for the arch building.

   

Planted out early potatoes: swift, rocket, a few vitabella and vivaldi also 3 alouette. It's the last chance for swift. The last 2 years minimal crop due to late frost one year then didn't bother to come up at all last year.
Then brought dahlias out of store into boxes of compost in greenhouse to get them going. was going to mow a bit but ran out of energy. Went down the road for a farm ice cream but lots of others with the same idea. Came home as a massive queue and had a magnum out of the freezer instead.

Not much gardening going on today other than picking up a few decorative bits that the previous owners left, that Jay's mother wanted and took receipt of some new garden plant marker pens. Jay kindly found me some permanent markers that he's had for donkeys years, but they fade really quickly, so I've had to purchase new ones, quickly. I've bought two different kinds and will be trialling them!

Emptied a Dalek onto my pea bed turned another Dalek looks like that compost will soon be ready. took my Toms etc out into the GH for the day.
