Babushka pots

Have you ever had a Russian Doll - not the flesh and blood ones Tongue - but the dolls that nest inside each other getting smaller and smaller until you reach a tiny one in the middle?

Imagine a series of flower pots that do the same.
If you can't, here's a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrkvOE6dDhQ

It looks a great way to take lots of cuttings in a small space without the roots getting tangled together.

I'm not ready to make a Cuttings Babushka yet so I'm trying a Salad one from seeds. Red and green Salad Bowl lettuce in the outer ring,  then Spring onions, then radish and Little Gem lettuce in the centre.
Made a couple of bent wire hoops and covered it with a carrier bag.

No photos 'cos I've already done it and bagged it.

A cuttings one will be next.

That’s really clever! And simple. I might try that. As I’m on a mission to fill my new garden with plants without spending much.

I'm going to start a cuttings one for all those lavender and rosemary cuttings I could intending to take.

Fancy a carrot one too. Carrots sown around the outside and a removable pot in the middle, so that I can see how big the carrots are before i pull them out. I always pull them before their prime!!

I promised you photos!

The radish have germinated ( in 3 days!) so I can either:-

1. take out the  centre pot and fill the hole with compost to let the radish grow on
2. take out the centre pot and remove the radish seedlings to pot up elsewhere (that's what I'd do if it was rooted cuttings as I'd be able to see the size of the roots)
3. take out the centre and radish pots, replace the centre pot  and fill the gap with more compost and fill up the radish pot to let them grow in that.
4. leave it as it is and let the radish squash up. - or thin them out.

Decisions, decisions!!

What a clever idea! I will definitely try that with my old rosemary that is looking old and straggly now. I will take cuttings to keep in the back garden, and the old and gnarly one can go in the front garden and enjoy the heat that gets in the summer Smile

I took some cuttings today.
Those pots are a bit of a bu@@er to fill. But you can get lots of cuttings in them. I like it.
