2022 - What I did today

I took a break from decorating and spent a happy couple of hours pottering in the greenhouse today.

I:
potted on my lettuce and spring onion seedlings into bigger modules
succession sowed lettuce into the little modules
sowed a pot of radish and a pot of early Nantes carrots
took some more Chrysanthemum cuttings
potted up the Chrysanthemum cuttings that had rooted
sowed some early Jalapenos with fresh seed
and did a bit of general tidying up.

The weather outside was (and still is) disgusting. But I was happily wrapped up warm and snug in the greenhouse Smile

Raked out some mole hills ready for mowing all too soon.
Mattocked flat a path between 2 raised beds. It's on a slope and the mole dumps soil on one side creating a very narrow sloped path. My crumbling feet make it painful to stand or walk across a slope. Up and down is fine!!
Cut out the remains of my lovely row of topiary willow bushes. I had to remove the big ball at the end for the extension and the little undulating hedge that was left looked weird.

Today the pond got emptied completely and the fish weren't as big as I thought they were! Anyway, they've all found new homes, and we can now carry on with our plans in the back garden.

We've pulled up one already and the pond still has a massive pot of water lillies in the bottom that I want to pull up - I will put them into a water butt each. I'm pretty sure I will end up with another pond, I'm just not sure where yet.

The pond is covered in carpet, which is muddy as all hell, and I really don't know if we are going to be able to physically get that out, or if we'll end up just pushing it down to the bottom. The liner is already out. That'll be a battle for another day Smile

Finally got some Jalapeno and Trinidad Perfume chilli seeds sown yesterday Cool They are fresh seeds from two plants I have overwintered on the windowsill. Dunno whether this makes a difference or not? Huh

I hve put the pots  in the propagator but unsure whether it's working or not as it doesn't seem warm? I  covered the base with wet sand so maybe it needs to dry out a bit?

Pruned back both a purple hazel and pink albizia.
Sowed leeks.
Cleaned pots for pricking out peppers and aubergines later in the week.
Sorted out the storage boxes in the shed - lots of mouse damage to some fleece Sad . Cleaned the digging tools and swept out the floor.

I shifted some more concrete, after having to empty the pond again today. Now that we've removed the liner, the pond fills itself back up over night, the ground is that soggy.

Jay filled most of it with concrete and the wooden frame from the pond - it was rotten. More than a foot from the top and I'm filling that up with compost out of a massive planter thingy at the back of the garden tomorrow.

Sowed out strawberry plants and sowed some cavolo nero seeds into modules. Dug over an inside raised bed and fed it with granulated sea weed, BFB, and chicken manure pellets.
Coffee keeps me busy until it’s acceptable to drink whiskey.

Today, unexpecedly I am getting a log delivery. Cool I had given up hope and was contemplating getting logs from someone else because I have waited a fortnight and I am now desperate for logs. Cry He has explained that some of it will not be as dry (seasoned) as I have had in the past, but beggars can't be choosers. We shall see how it turns out? Huh
Got my wheelbarrow in position,my gloves ready and hopefully he will deliver sooner rather than later as I would like to get the majority barrowed away today and stacked. Rolleyes
Maybe shouldn't have booked Rockfit for this evening! Cry

Pricked out aubergines, which was actually more challenging than it sounds, what with mixing compost, scrubbing props and pots and juggling too many pots for the space Big Grin
Sorted out the over wintered stuff in pots ready for spring planting.
