advice if poss please.
I’ve got a golden leaved philadelphus that has been in the same spot since we moved here about twenty years ago. It’s cut to “tidiness” every year so is kept to about five feet tall. Problem is that just as it starts to look (and smell) amazing, the sun comes out and scorches all the leaves. Have finally decided that I have to take a chance and try to move it to a shady corner. (If it dies, then I’m afraid that’s just too bad as the sunburnt bush is a real eyesore - and I’ve put up with it for twenty years.)
Now the question...... I have bought two new small philadelphus plants (Snowbelle and Manteau d’Hermine). These are green leaved rather than golden. Are they likely to get burnt too does any one know? I was hoping that green leaves would stand up to sunshine so that I could plant them in the same place.
Phew!!

I have green leaf one - I don't know what variety it is but it's a thug and never has any issue with scorch. Gets lots of sun.
As a precaution before moving yours you could take some cuttings? I took half a dozen last year and they all took.

dont have much trouble with other stuff - just this one that I would like to hang on to!

I think the trick is timing...and just being left somewhere. Though I always find the fancier the variety the harder to grow or propagate.
I love sedum - the green one is prolific here - I bought a black ( or very nearly) it's not done that wel at all.

I have bought quite a few plants labelled as philadelphus (mock orange) but they never seem to be the large flowered variety I am after. I like the large 3 inch diameter 'blousey' double bloomed variety, so instead of buying from the pound shop I suppose I will have to spend a bit more money and buy from a specialist nursery!

I've got a tiny mock orange that has an absolutely divine fragrance when it flowers. I nicked a few shoots from a plant in a park near where I lived before. It's still only about five inches tall now. I can't recall if the flowers are double or not Vinny, but I'm willing to go get you some cuttings this spring!

I have a green leaved one, variety unknown, in full sun on a south a facing slope and it doesn't get sun scorched despite our mostly hot summers.
This one has no scent so it'll get replaced at some stage.
