Spring bulbs.

I’ve got a few spring bulbs arriving soon. 
I was thinking of planning them all in fish boxes until I can plant then in my new garden. Will that be ok ? 
They’ll have to be planted quite tightly together or I’ll run out of fish boxes and compost.

How about lasagne planting them?
I have some tubs I planted about 3 years ago and they flowered every year without attention.
I also put dahlias on top of the bulbs. I just bung 'em in.

Is lasagna planting layer of bulbs, layer of compost, another layer of bulbs until container is full ? 
Staggered so they’re not directly on top of each other? Never done that before. Never had this many bulbs before   .

Yes - you've got it!. Usually smaller bulbs in the top layer, medium size below and bigger ones below those.

Another stupid question.

When’s the best time to lift spring bulbs for moving/ splitting?

I’ve got a few in the garden I want to take with me.
Is it around now same as planting time?. I guess it’s best when they’re completely dormant.

The bulbs will have put some decent roots on by now, so if you dig them up you'll be best off potting them up in a bit of compost to keep those roots alive.
As you say, the best time to lift them up is in early summer when the foliage is dying off but you can still find them.

Thanks Martin. They don’t need lifting yet. Also I know exactly where they are so summer lifting is perfect.  They’ll probably be going into pots anyway as there’s a fairly high chance the garden won’t be ready for them to go straight in.

My bulbs arrived. Breeze found them fascinating.

These 3 will probably stay full of bulbs when they move to the new garden. I had to transplant what was in them before being a little more choosy about which one’s .
