OK, opened chrome today and everything is wiped, no bookmarks, no passwords, no nothing. No warning! Enough is enough. I liked chrome 'cos the homepage can be set to a blank background.

So I need a new browser, preferably one with an uncluttered homepage. I've tried edge but can't see a way to remove all the homepage rubbish I don't want.

Any recommendations? what do you all use?

Firefox seems OK to me. I use it in Ubuntu with duckduckgo to search but you can use others. It comes with some advertising but this can be turned off. It will also keep on the home page recently visited sited but again you can get rid of these.

You can back up your bookmarks and passwords but I doubt many do except when getting a new PC. I assume you could back up your bookmarks and passwords on chrome.

Were you signed in to your Google account on Chrome? If so your bookmarks and passwords might be backed up via Sync.

I've used Firefox quite happily for a few years now after moving away from Chrome. Instead of using the brower's password manager I use the Bitwarden add-on.

I used to use firefox but had problems with it when windows upgraded so swapped to chrome. Maybe I'll go back to it. If my passwords are backed up anywhere in chrome, I can't find them, but joy! most are saved in norton security so it is not as catastrophic as I first thought. Also I've finally managed to import some bookmarks from edge, but not recent ones, I've not used edge for 4 years. Must make it a habit to open the norton vault on startup, so passwords can be automatically saved.

Firefox is a much better browser than it used to be. I switched to it from Chrome because the performance is better on my laptop and Chrome made some changes I didn't like.

Absolutely no help to Moth, but I saw this today:-

WHAT YOUR INTERNET BROWSER SAYS ABOUT YOU:
Google Chrome
You know pop music is short for popular music and you’re fine with it
Internet Explorer
You haven't updated your computer in a while
Firefox
You still play the Sims and have 350 tabs open at all times
Safari
We get it, you have a Mac
AOL
You can't make a phonecall and use the internet at the same time
Microsoft Edge
You try every new Dominos Pizza the first day it comes out
Samsung Internet
You don't believe in shopping around
Opera
You only browse using those little theatre binoculars
DuckDuckgo
You choose what film to watch based on the title
Tor
You really don’t want people to know how often you’re searching “how to boil eggs”
Vivaldi/Brave/Epic/Chromium
You know more about the internet than us
The Moneyless Chicken says:-
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.
