Melons

I sowed some of Mamzie's melon seeds and planted one in the gh.  It's got 3 or 4 stems I've got 2 trailing and 2 climbing. Some small melon fruit are forming.  What do I do next?

I'm no expert but if they're anything like other trailing vine fruit I'd say the first fruit is unlikely to be the best and you should be ruthless with thinning your fruit to allow the ones that remain to grow on to a good size.

If the fruit are starting to swell, I'd leave them to it. The books tend to say try to get 4 growing together on each plant.

When I've grown them, it has been a bit hit and miss how many there were. You might need to pinch out the growing points of the trailing shoots depending on how much room you can spare for it.

I have some that need tying up now as in with butternut squash so need to be above their leaves.
