Lots of us have grown pea shoots from dried peas but I didn't know you could grow Broad/Fava bean shoots in the same way - or chickpeas for that matter!
I have lots of old Wizard Field bean seeds and old dried peas so I feel an experiment coming on.

That’s brilliant, I had no idea you could do shoots thing with beens.
I’ve done sprouting chickpeas not tried them as shots.
Now for the tricky bit ! Where can I get dried fava beans on the island
I like trying new things like that in salads

Do you have any unwanted broad beans? Same thing only bigger!

Unfortunately not, avoiding them like the plague! They’re horrible . I grow a packet last year but gave them all away.

There's a thing, I'd rather have the broad beans than the salad, no shoots for me.

You can buy bags of dried fava beans in your local ethnic grocers - maybe in the supermarkets too.

I’ll add those to my next supermarket shopping list. The neighbour must be going over to the main land again soon ( not sure how that works at the moment. Mainland in full lockdown, islands aren’t)

I was just googling trying to find out more as I didn't realise Fava were the same as broad beans. Apparently fava are the dried seeds of broad beans. I'm not fussed on broad beans but will give fresh shoots a try.
I found that apparently we can eat Sunflowers Shoots as well? I love sunflower seeds, and it says you can just use bird seed which would be around a £ for a kg from many shops. http://www.dlc.fi/~marian1/gourmet/4_25.htm

For no particular reason, I wouldn't use bird seed for sprouting, just in case they've been badly stored/treated. Sunflower seeds from health food shops/supermarkets are meant for human consumption so I'd stick with those myself.

I've got some broad bean seeds was going to take them to the charity shop but I'll grow them a shoots instead never thought about doing that. I do grow a fair few peas for shoots and then sprout things like puy lentils for salads.
