Look who I've found - a Scarlet Tiger Moth - proving that I didn't massacre all the caterpillars in error!
I needed somewhere to rehome the bee ( ?Hairy-footed Flower bee) which was crawling up my arm and just by chance I spotted the Moth. Hope they're friends now.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen either of those. Very nice things to find in your garden.

I've got box moth caterpillars eating their way through the two box 'balls' in the front. The moth came from China and has no natural predators here (so sayeth the web) but I'm sure I saw a great tit having a right old rummage and come out with a caterpillar in its beak.
Gardening is an excuse not to do housework

I hope you're right, JJB, and the birds are developing a taste for them. Around here, people are ripping out their box hedges as the caterpillars are everywhere. Sad
