I've just acquired a 6.5 litre slow cooker - its BIG.
I confess to having a smaller one, sitting in the back of the cupboard. Think I've only used it twice. So why have I acquired a second one, you may ask? I'm hoping that I could use it for slow cooking chutneys - the sort that simmer away on the hob for hours and need constant attention, stirring and to control the heat .
So my question to the panel is, will it work, and are there any other uses for a slow cooker apart from meat, stews and pulses. I think I've read about making bread and yogurt in one ?
All ideas welcome.

Can’t help with chutney making in one. I used mine mostly for making stock. I used to save all my peelings and tops & tails from my veg . Freeze them, until I had enough to make a batch of stock. Also cooked the occasional lamb shank. As you know I don’t do stew or casserole. So mine never gets used for that.

You'd have to leave it with the lid off if you want the chutney to thicken up, since you need the water in the ingredients to evaporate.

There are plenty of slow cooker chutney recipes on the Web, here's one:

I'm really tempted to give one of them a try. What could go wrong? I'm on the way home and I'm sure there will be loads of courgettes masquerading as marrows for me to experiment with. The only downside is that we don't eat that much chutney, but a slow cooker (or at least my ancient one) won't make too many jars.

Thanks. JJB. I'm tempted by the onion chutneys/jams - as I have a lot of onions doing nothing! https://www.talesfromthekitchenshed.com/...n-chutney/
