Hollow it out and then you'll have a boat RE: Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night! - JJB - 26-08-2021 Hollow it out whole put finger holes for notes and blow it like a conch, alternatively marrow and ginger jam or marrow and cheese sauce. RE: Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night! - Veggie - 26-08-2021 I remember my Mum making marrow rum - no sure why as she didn't drink! She cut the top off the marrow, hollowed it out, filled it with sugar and fashioned some sort of hanging thing out of an old stocking. She hung it in the kitchen and we kids watched, intrigued, as it slowly rotted, dripped sticky liquor that attracted all the flies within a 5 mile radius and, eventually collapsed into a smelly heap. It was enough to put anyone off marrows for life - so I'm pleased that nobody has suggested doing this. RE: Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night! - Veggie - 27-08-2021 Happy Morning all. I thought I'd start the day in my usual bright and breezy way.................. This is the weather thread, isn't it? Have a good one whatever your mood/weather. RE: Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night! - Bren - 27-08-2021 Morning I'm baking this morning so don't mind what the weather is but I'd like it to be nice for my afternoon walk please. So what's your plan for the monster marrow Veggie? RE: Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night! - Veggie - 27-08-2021 My plan???? Do I need a plan??? This is worrying! At the more moment I'm using one of my time honoured techniques that are guaranteed to make things smaller - point at it and laugh. If I do it often enough it may shrink to the size of a courgette. RE: Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night! - JJB - 27-08-2021 ^^^ very droll RE: Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night! - Veggie - 27-08-2021 (25-08-2021, 09:59 PM)Veggie Wrote: More wildlife tales! The dogs just rushed across the patio and Spud returned with a hedgehog in his mouth!! I think its OK - its just sitting outside at the moment ..............Oh no its not!!! Its moved off somewhere but the dogs are frantic to go out again. They usually just stare at hedgehogs, maybe paw them but never seen them pick one up before. Hope it has the sense to go through the gate where the dogs can't reach it.The dopey hedgehog is back, sitting outside the patio doors and I can't blame the dogs for putting him there this time! Had to put a cardboard box over him until the dogs had calmed down, then I moved it into the hedge where I saw them last year. Its quite small but I don't know what weight they need to be to hibernate. That's my homework for tonight! RE: Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night! - Veggie - 30-08-2021 Happy Bank Holiday (for those of you who have a day off work) and Happy Monday to everyone else. Another wildlife tale from the garden - one I would prefer not to tell. Spud just caught a baby squirrel! He wouldn't give it up, every time I tried to take it he'd try to swallow it! My final ploy involved a bucket and a mangetout pea pod! Whilst I stood on the now very dead squirrel's body, Spud had to choose between the squirrel or the mangetout. WE had a tug-of-war while he tried to swallow the squirrel, realised he couldn't and chose the mangetout instead. Meanwhile, I covered the squirrel with a bucket as I didn't want to touch it. It was only then that I realised that its tail was missing and I can guess where it went! Dogs can be horrible creatures at times but I'm trying to reconcile this with my dislike for squirrels when they pinch the fruit. |
