As an aside, I've just realised that lots of Downunder animals' names begin with K..........Koala, Kangaroo, Kookaburra, Kiwi.  Wonder why?

Perhaps after their aboriginal names? Do you remember the Kookaburra Song?  'Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, merry merry king of the bush is he.'

L is for long-tale tits . There’s a local flock about 30 strong. Seen most regularly around this time of year. I love the sound of there calls to each other as they’re flying from one tree to another. I always stop to look for them if I hear them. Such beautiful little birds. They are quite a rare sight because in the 16 years we’ve lived on Mull. We’ve never seen a long-tail on a feeder. Which I find fascinating because in Somerset they were some of the most regularly visitors to the feeders.

You may of noticed a lot of my sounds are nature based  Cool .

I love the Long Tailed Tits too. They come to the feeders here which are just outside the patio doors so I can watch them closely. I always marvel at how their tails don't become tangled up with the other tails, that stick out at all sorts of angles...

My L is for LetterBox. The sound the letterbox?slot?flap makes when a letter has been delivered and the letter lands on the floor. Anticipating what it will be - usually boring stuff or junkmail but, at the right time of the year, and its coming up to that time, it will be seeds for the seed swap or, she whispers, seeds bought in sales.

M has to be for music. There are so many different types of music some I love, some I tolerate, some hate with a passion. And lots of music stirs many emotions and can instantly bring back memories of times, places, people. It’s powerful stuff it can turn you into a dancing god (or so you think) or it’s can turn you into a blubbering mess .

Well said, SC.

My M is for Money and a Moneybox - the sort you had as a child when every penny was important and you could actually buy something for a penny.
The coins would be posted through a little slot and make a jingling sound as they landed on another coin. I loved rattling the moneybox and trying to guess how much was in there.
We had an elderly Auntie Flo who visited about twice a year and would give my brother and I, sixpence each. In return we were expected to say thank you and give her a kiss. She was a bit whiskery and my brother refused to kiss her - he said it wasn't worth sixpence!!

I can relate to all of those, letters, long tails, music & moneybox.

I think my L has got to be laughter, those real belly laughs that don't come often, even if it's someone's else's laughter it's still infectious but if it's your own uncontrolled laughter it's invigorating.

M is for muttering it drives me bonkers. Himself mutters at the computer then I don't know if he's talking to me and I haven't heard properly or it's the precursor to a full blown swearing session at Microsoft.

N is for the Noises of the Night. I like standing outdoors in the dark, listening to wildlife going about its business, birds settling down to sleep until dawn while others are on the prowl for their supper. Small mammals pushing through the grass, the rustle of leaves.
Some nighttime noises are not so Nice - the bumps and bangs of unknown objects, falling...........was it a slate off the roof, a branch off a tree and so on. At the moment, its usually acorns landing on the tin roof of the shed!

N is for exactly what Veggie has already discredited.
So I’ll go with my second opinion which is a nail gun. I do like that sound because it means work is being done to our house.

N

I'm going with nocturnal too, especially owls. Even with double glazing we can hear the tawny owls calls. I'm not entirely sure but I believe the male and female have differing calls. There are differing calls at night and I don't think they're differing owls.

O is the same as the O in the A to Z of smells. The ocean. I love hearing the gentle lapping tide washing over a gravely beach. Also love the sound of a much angrier ocean with big waves crashing into the beach. You can hear the terrifying unstoppable power. I love it. Rough oceans always remind me of Nan she always to say she enjoyed being on the ocean when it was full of big swells and rolling waves.
