And I also want a sieve attachment now. RE: 2022/23 Chutney and Jam Central - Farendwoman - 28-08-2023 Posted that before I read JJB’s post saying that it would cost eighty quid! RE: 2022/23 Chutney and Jam Central - Bren - 28-08-2023 Have a look on ebay I bought mine from there about 10 years ago. Unfortunately the attachment has been discontinued so any seller can name their price. It seems, from just a cursory glance through the listings, that it's available in the States. Also beware those on sale might not fit all models. RE: 2022/23 Chutney and Jam Central - Veggie - 29-08-2023 (27-08-2023, 11:28 AM)JJB Wrote: Here's a question team. When you make jam out of blackberries, do you sieve out the pips/seeds. P doesn't mind raspberry seeds but blackberry ones don't soften and are numerous. In the past I've boiled 'em up and pressed them through a sieve, which is darned time consuming. I'm considering getting a rotary mouli mill, any experience of these out there?Saw this on a FB page about jam making - and I thought of you! I bought a stainless steel moulin from Nisbets last year for around £45. It has 3 different plates, and it squishes your berries and separates the seeds. Much easier than muslins and sieves ] RE: 2022/23 Chutney and Jam Central - JJB - 29-08-2023 I too got the idea from some recipe site, my site said she got her mouli from a thrift shop for $5. £45 sounds a bit steep for just once a year. I'm still dithering about an amazon cheap one. RE: 2022/23 Chutney and Jam Central - Veggie - 12-11-2023 I made a jar and a half of Mango chutney out of odds and ends! Three mangoes, brown sugar and distilled malt vinegar, a sachet of lemon grass, ginger and garlic puree (should have been fresh ginger, powdered ginger and garlic), chilli flakes (should have been a fresh chilli). The recipe was for microwave cooking but I didn't fancy that lot bubbling over in the microwave so I did it on the hob. Tastes OK but I'll let it stand for a few weeks before trying it. RE: 2022/23 Chutney and Jam Central - Veggie - 09-10-2024 Made 4 jars of raspberry and blackberry jam this morning - with the FREE fruit I was given yesterday. For the record, I didn't sieve out the pips. Did anyone buy a mouli or special sieve that we were talking about the last time this thread was in use? RE: 2022/23/24 Chutney and Jam Central - Bren - 09-10-2024 Pickled sweet peppers. Rhubarb, orange and ginger jam. Garlic, oregano roasted tomatoes. Dehydrated apple slices. Blackberry and apple Jam. I'm still using my Kenwood sieve to remove pips RE: 2022/23 Chutney and Jam Central - JJB - 09-10-2024 (09-10-2024, 08:02 PM)Veggie Wrote: Made 4 jars of raspberry and blackberry jam this morning - with the FREE fruit I was given yesterday. I never bothered, looking at reviews I was never convinced a mouli would do the job. I still use a wide sieve and the arduous flat of a spoon to push the blackberry flesh through. |
