I'm equally gobsmacked, but I do wonder how liquids can be stored/transported without plastic bottles. Does it say something that only 2% is cleaning materials

I'm probably going to get a load of flack here, but what's the difference between authorities recycling plastic waste by incinerating it for heat,and me using a small amount of my plastic waste to light my woodburner?

Incinerating plastic waste isn't "recycling", IMO.

Food waste in a a bin. Both these are collected weekly. Never use my food waste bin.
Garden waste collected fortnightly in summer.
General waste collected fortnightly and is incinerated providing energy for summat - can't remember what! No landfill here.
Fortnightly, there are collections of Garden waste or General Waste.
General waste is incinerated and the heat generated is used in a district heating system that supplies some municipal buildings and apartment blocks nearby.
Food waste is incinerated at the local sewerage plant where is powers the plant.
Garden waste is composted for the city parks and allotments. Its not sold to residents.

I'm not saying this is right for todays living, but I was brought up with a single coal fire in the living room. All burnable waste went on the fire (Granted it was mainly paper and cardboard as plastic wasn't so prevalent then) Even veg peelings were added to fire to clean the chimney outThe only thing that went into the bin was the coal ash, hence the 'ash bin'.
How things have changed.

We only had a coal fire in one room too - where Mum did some of her cooking. I still have our old toasting fork.
Plastic didn't really exist then - just paper, tin and glass. Money back on the bottles, jars kept for preserving. Rag and bone men with horse drawn carts calling out for old clothes - don't remember giving him any bones (for the glue factory presumably!). So happy when he'd give us a windmill or a goldfish in return!
Milk and bread delivered daily. Fruit and veg on horse drawn carts too. Loved seeing him (Mr Vickery) and his pony. He said I could have his pony when he retired and I was so excited I rushed in to tell my Mum.
"Where do you think you'll keep it?" she asked, ever sensible, my Mum.
"He can sleep in my bedroom!". Don't know how she managed to keep a straight face.
Fortunately, I grew up a bit before Mr Vickery retired!
