RE: What's made you happy today? - PyreneesPlot - 31-01-2021 A peregrine falcon belting through the garden while I was counting birds. The song birds scattered unharmed but I don't think I can count it as it didn't land! Farendwoman - Farendwoman - 01-02-2021 Spotted these two in the garden this afternoon. Often see them in the fields, but it’s unusual to see them so close RE: What's made you happy today? - PyreneesPlot - 02-02-2021 I love seeing them in the fields, but they are an absolute menace in my garden, eating all the new growth on my trees and shrubs. They're most partial to apple trees, roses and field maples. The woods and hedges are full of field maples so why are they eating mine?!! But beautiful all the same! Today the sun has come out after four days of torrential rain - the ditches, streams and rivers will still roar with water for a few days before it becomes calm again. RE: What's made you happy today? - Small chilli - 02-02-2021 I’ve learned what a rocker is. I’ll be able to educate Bob and our foundations builder now. He looked very confused when we asked him what it was yesterday. RE: What's made you happy today? - JJB - 02-02-2021 (02-02-2021, 02:22 PM)Small chilli Wrote: I’ve learned what a rocker is. Takes to long to recover from the whiplash . It’s not a chair either . It’s a type of pipe that allows for movement.(02-02-2021, 02:22 PM)Small chilli Wrote: I’ve learned what a rocker is. It's used in the Potteries as well: "It is said to find its origin in the Saxon word ‘ducas’ which was meant as a term of respect; similar to the Middle English ‘duc’, ‘duk’ which denotes a leader, commander; from which comes the title ‘Duke’ and the Old French word ‘ducheé’ - the territory ruled by a Duke. From these origins it became a greeting and then a term of endearment." http://www.thepotteries.org/dialect_qa.html |
