Its strange not having to go down the garden before it gets dark, to put her to bed and read her a story - and it will be similarly strange tomorrow morning, not having to let her out of her coop.
I've been expecting her demise for a couple of days as she'd stopped eating and was just hunkered down in her run. The dogs will miss eating her poo - they were actually a bit afraid of her as she'd peck them if they got too close.
Sorry to read about Bronwen Brownhen xx
Sorry to hear the sad news about Bronwen, Veggie,, I’m sure she had a wonderful life with you and the pups! x
Thanks everyone. x
Looking back through this thread, I see that Bronwen aka Scraggy Neck Bert and her 2 sisters came home with me in October 2020 so she's had a reasonably long life for a rescue hen as she was 75 weeks old when I had her.
Commiserations Veggie on the loss of Bronwen Brownhen.
Sad as I am to see the last chicken leave the nest, there's also a positive side to it.
Don't have to let her out early morning or shut her back in at dusk.
Don't have to clean out chicken poo.
Don't have to worry about my plants being eaten.
Don't have to worry about foxes.
Have gained 2 fenced in areas that can be used for more growing space (although they are a bit shady).
Have gained a shed that has been used to store feed, straw and other chicken related paraphernalia.
Don't miss the eggs as she hadn't laid any for months.

Look on the bright side of life. Big Grin
