Thats something I've not got around to dehydrating yet.

Wouldn't this create a lot of moisture in the room, particularly at this time of year? Also, how much electric would it use?

Asking as my wife is fancying one.

Hello Mark

We didn't notice an increase in moisture but I'm not sure we would.

As for electric usage I'm not sure however my understanding is they are relatively cheap to run.

Hopefully someone with more experience using them will be along to share their viewsSmile
Mark I’ve got an Excalibur 9 tray dehydrator and it’s 600w so based on the average uk electric price it works out at 9.78p per hour.

As for moisture. I get a small puddle of water come out. That’s only when I’m dehydrating my chillies from frozen. That’s just the ice crystals melting as you get with anything you defrost. Never any moisture when dehydrating fresh.
Well here you go, will try in the lasagne next week.

Do you think I should rehydrate first or let that happen as part of the cooking process?

They look good. No idea, I’ll leave that for you to work out  Smile .
Well they came out OK!

Rehydrated them then layered in the lasagne along with a beef mince ragu.

The texture was slightly rubbery but niceSmile

Tonight another lasagne, this time we put the courgettes in without rehydrating, again they came out OK.

Our conclusion, instead of freezing courgettes this year we will use the dehydratorSmile

That's good to know! I bought a dehydrator a few months ago - I keep meaning to make kale chips from the curly kale that comes in our organic veg box, but keep forgetting  Rolleyes

Of course dehydrating courgettes rather relies on me having a glut in the first place!
Thanks for the update Danny its good to know what works out best. Hopefully I'll have another courgette glut this season.
