A thread to record what you've spent on gardening and the value of the crops you've grown in 2024.
There are no rules, do it in anyway that works for you.
Its not a competition, just a way to get an idea of how much you spend on seeds, compost, plants, sundries and structures compared to the value of the food or other crops that your garden gives you in return.
Feel free to share the ways in which you are measuring the costs and benefits. All the more ideas the better. Big Grin
I suggest we post our Balance Sheet at the end of each month to keep an eye on it!
I will definitely be doing this with you .
I will respectfully 'bow out' of this one but will follow the thread with interest? Smile
I'll try to but come courgette, tomato and bean season will probably be overwhelmed, just as I am when I vow to record the productivity of each variety but get indoors and forget which variety is which.
Give yourself 50p for every courgette - that's what I'm going to do. Same for cucumbers. Two for a pound - bargain. Big Grin
Fruit with my porridge - 50p
Mixed leaf salad - 50p
Handful of tomatoes - 50p
Portion of beans - 50p
I'm not going to worry about being exact. Just want an idea.

Yep, sounds like a plan, but you know how your plans usually turn out Tongue Nevertheless it's worth a try.
Its my Plan for Jan - it may be modified by Feb. Big Grin
I'll probably include stuff that is given away as well as it is going to be used.
I'm going to differentiate between food I've previously frozen/preserved and that which I grow this year which may end up in the freezer.
For example, the soft fruit I'll eat with breakfast will come from the freezer until the rhubarb starts and then the strawberries which I'll eat fresh.
Its a bit like the seeds I have, they don't count - only the ones I buy this year.
I’ll be starting from scratch. Anything I’ve already got in the garden or kitchen/ store cupboard/ freezer will not count. If it’s not grown or purchased in 2024 it won’t count. I will include what ever money I make from my plants and flower sales. As it’s come from the garden and it’ll go back into the garden.
