How to grow avocado.
https://youtu.be/TDd_QU9Crmk

I now realise when I tried it, I did it all wrong .
I might have another go myself after watching that!
I thought it was only the base of the stone that touched the water - not half of it. Maybe that's where I've gone wrong. Wink

You & me both  Blush
I have an avocado stone in a container of water in the seed propagator. Smile I tried it initially in an egg cup but it swelled up and I struggled to get it out again! Confused
I keep changing the water daily and it comes roughly half way up the stone. I don't know which part of the stone sends out a root or a shoot though? Huh
More advice please. When would be the best time to prune the avocados?
They’ve grown a little bit since I last asked advise  Big Grin

Flippin eck, and here was me thinking mine was doing well on the windowsill! Rolleyes
Don’t worry Vinny. You can take pride in the fact you grow from seed / stone! I’ve still not managed to germinate one  Blush .
You’ll need much bigger windows sills soon enough  Big Grin .
Tried many times to grow them, once got one to grow to about a foot before it snuffed it.  Low and behold when hubby was working on our composting area yesterday he came across 2 stones with shoots on.  Must have been in there for months, have now potted them up and will try again as we really like advocados and often have them for lunch with prawns.
Nice find, Knotty. Big Grin
There's a thread about growing Avocados at https://gardenandgossip.org/showthread.p...ht=avocado. Perhaps Small chilli & Vinny can tell up whether they still have their plants?

EDIT I've merged the threads.
Mine is still  clinging on to life though it  lost a lot of it's lower leaves during the winter. Sick
