Not grown scabious (that I know) I also wondered about helichrysum but didn't think they went fluffy.

Could be michelmas daisy. A pal donated a couple of clump, maybe I thought to save the seed. Also grew a few asters last year too, so that's a possibility.

Heres my Helichrysum... it does have fluff and looks a similar shape?

I have knapweed s/s seed here but they dont look a good match

As they're now germinating I agree Scarlet, more than likely helichrysum.  The seedlings look exactly like those in my pot of labelled helichrysum seeds, also germinating.  Not something I've grown successfully before, only one plant survived last year due to my neglect.  I'm really pleased that I'll have more than one this year hopefully.
