Recommendations - Gloves and Secateurs Please - Broadway - 06-12-2020

Morning folks,

I’m after your recommendations for gloves and secateurs please.

Secateurs - Ideally left-handed

Gloves – Flexible but strong, so can withstand blackberry thorns

Felco for secateurs. More expensive but you can buy replacement parts or send them off to be serviced.

There are the rolls Royce of gardening gloves. £25 to £39. I find them a bit thick to wear for much other than dealing with thorns - bramble and hawthorns mainly. The ladies size were to small for OH. I bought a pair from Trentham Gardens.

These look similar to some I bought from a local gardening centre for £6 recently. There are flexible to use for most jobs. The brand there was Town and Country. I find them OK for dealing with brambles as long as I'm careful.

My son used a pair of these when he did a job gardening for people in the village several years ago and they still have some life left in them though some of the rubber is coming off now.

Okatsune secateurs. Come with two springs, they're not technically left handed but I am a left hander and have used them no problems. I have a pair of their snips (I love them) and have put the secateurs on my christmas list as i got some for my dad for his birthday and he loves them.

I've been using the same pair of Felcos for over 20 years. I keep meaning to send them offf for repair - the red handles have worn away in places - blades are still good.

I use town and country gloves - good for brambles. I like them as the small fits well without a ton of room in the fingers! I hate flappy gloves.

Thanks for your advice folks….

Although I didn’t choose the recommended secateurs it did help me in the selection process…

In the end I went for Kent & Stowe left handed secateurs, I couldn’t really justify the Felcos as they would last longer than me!

Regards gloves I went for Showa 451 Thermo Grip Insulated Gloves, influenced by a link/comment from Mark.

Both have arrived and seem good quality and sturdy?

Why do you need to bother with left handed secateurs, I am strong dommanent left handed but have never had any bother using anything from the other side, as for gloves there is a factory outlet close by where I can get XXL working gloves that fit my hands as XL are usually too small

I like Fiskars secateurs. I have a ratchet action pair which are good for when my hands are sore, plus a bright yellow pair which, in theory, I shouldn't lose too often. I've had quite a few pairs now.
