Paper Pots - Broadway - 07-11-2020 Evening folks Given we are in lockdown I'm sorting out a few outstanding indoor jobs I have a lot of printed black and white A4 sheets (about 400) that I intended to shred and add to the compost. However I wondered if I could use some for making paper pots or do you think normal printer paper would be too thick? RE: Paper Pots - Bren - 07-11-2020 I don't know Danny I've only ever used newspaper for mine. I do add shredded printer paper to my dalek and that breaks down so I don't see why you couldn't use it for pot making. RE: Paper Pots - Baldy - 07-11-2020 think I've used it in the past... RE: Paper Pots - Broadway - 08-11-2020 Thanks folks will shred about 99% and keep some back. Was thinking about using some as toilet roll bases and removing when the rolls are planted out?? RE: Paper Pots - Veggie - 08-11-2020 Don't overthink it! As Can says, give it a go - nothing to lose if it doesn't work. Make a few up, plant some beans or sweet peas in them and see what happens. Plenty of time to experiment before the main sowing season in spring. RE: Paper Pots - Vinny - 08-11-2020 Origami rather than paper mache I presume? RE: Paper Pots - JJB - 08-11-2020 Broadway, I was fascinated by the thought of using scrap printed A4 sheets for pots and have made an origami pot out of 2 separate sheets of A4 old printer paper (instead of the recommended 1 sheet of newspaper). It seems rather robust for rotting down or for roots to penetrate but it's a definite maybe come planting season., a reasonable 2" size too. Once the paper gets wet, the roots should push through - or you could open up the base as you plant them out. RE: Paper Pots - Spec - 08-11-2020 Looking at the photo that JJB posted they look more substantial than newspaper pots, and once the base is wet I am sure roots will go through it |
