My E is for Earwigs, such a strange name!
As a kid, I imagined them sitting on top of people's ears to keep them warm.................

...............and I still do. Smile

EDIT
Earwig origins:-
Apparently, people believed that if you slept on the ground, earwigs would climb into your ears and tunnel into your brain, sending you insane.

Maybe, that's how it happened.  Rolleyes

When i think of earwigs I remember walking to school with  bunches  of dahlias and always having them crawling on my hands.  Confused

Similar memory here Bren!
Finding some nasturtiums growing wild, where someone must have dumped some garden waste, and bringing a bunch of flowers home for Mum. I proudly gave them to her, just as the earwigs were emerging. Don't think she was too impressed. Smile

I would like to spy more elephant hawk moths (seen 2 in 10 years).

My E is also earthworms, for which I am thankful to see, especially after finding two flatworms yesterday
