Tree ID - Broadway - 20-07-2020

Any ideas on this one folks?

The tree is about 30 - 40 foot high, the fruit / berries are soft to touch...

Thanks Veggie, I've been thinking about attempting some foraging so may bombard you with a few more pics in the next week or twoSmile

I've also found a 1/2 day course nearby that I'm thinking of doing in OctoberSmile

All my guesses come with caveats - get a second opinion if you're considering eating anything based on my guess.

If it is a Wild Cherry and you can pick a fruit, split it open and find the stone. It should look like a normal cherry. Do a lick taste - all the wild cherries I've tried have been quite sour and the stones were large. The ones that grew in this garden didn't ripen to that dark colour but were red and yellow.
If yours is in a garden, it could be a cultivated one gone wild.

Totally understand the caveats VeggieSmile

Well I did a squeeze/split and lick test and I think you were spot on!!

Is it your tree, Danny? I'm amazed the cherries have survived the birds! Must be too many to eat!

It's on the green where I posted the picture from Veggie, it's a massive tree but the birds are all over it!

How lovely! That someone planted the green with an edible food tree instead of something that's just ornamental like so many street trees.
