Epizote - Scarlet - 27-06-2020

Anyone grown it?

I was listening to a Rick Stein cooking programme while making a birthday present Big Grin  and he was on a trip in Mexico. I love tomatoes, fish and herbs - and the herb he used was epizote.
Epizote is a herb similar to thyme? Or so he said. I would be interested to try this. Apparently it grows like a weed in Mexico!

Having read this description of it, I'll give it a miss, thanks!!

Sounded interesting on the victoriana web site till I read this: "It is recommended that you use it sparingly, and cook it in food. Overdoses of epazotes essential oils can cause health problems (including vomiting or even death)."

Big Grin well I was only listening! But it sounded as if they used it quite a lot!

Perhaps cooking with it makes a big difference. Here in the UK we eat lots of herbs fresh?

My thyme always dies so I thought it would be a good alternative

Maybe buy some seeds from Pennard as they don't tell you about the risks!! https://www.pennardplants.com/proddetail.php?prod=Sd1206

Yes, great VC. Cos I haven't read about the risks it's ok to grow and eat! Big Grin
