Carrot tops - JJB - 19-06-2020 As I was thinning out the carrots and saving those big enough to eat I pondered: does anyone eat carrot tops? I cut some of the leaves of the baby carrots, but did I need to? Answers on a postcard to..............Jen RE: Carrot tops - Veggie - 19-06-2020 I think they can be chopped up and used like parsley or in a carrot top pesto. RE: Carrot tops - SarrissUK - 19-06-2020 Oh interesting! I will try that when I have carrots to harvest RE: Carrot tops - JJB - 19-06-2020 Paul will try them first I think RE: Carrot tops - Veggie - 20-06-2020 Go on, be brave! Have a nibble of a young leaf - it won't kill you. RE: Carrot tops - Veggie - 20-06-2020 https://www.riverford.co.uk/recipes/view/recipe/carrot-top-pesto and from the Carrot Museum!! http://www.carrotmuseum.co.uk/carrotops.html (and NO, its not a display of the wrinkled, shrivelled bendy objects you find in the bottom of the fridge!) That's why OH has lasted this long I reckon . RE: Carrot tops - JJB - 20-06-2020 (20-06-2020, 10:07 AM)Veggie Wrote: Go on, be brave! Have a nibble of a young leaf - it won't kill you. Definitely going to give them a try but this quote from the website gives me pause to think..... 'Carrot leaves contain significant amounts of porphyrins, which stimulate the pituitary gland and lead to the release of increased levels of sex hormones' Perhaps I'll try them first and not risk Paul...... it's his heart I'm thinking of of course. RE: Carrot tops - JJB - 20-06-2020 Bunged a home grown carrot top in the water with some bought carrots boiling for dinner. Taste was ok but texture wasn't pleasing, so not going down that route on a regular basis but might try eating the thinnings tops when I next have some. RE: Carrot tops - Veggie - 20-06-2020 Did you chop them up first? My thoughts would be to treat them like parsley - chop them up finely and sprinkle on to food. |
