Seed snails!? - SarrissUK - 08-02-2025 Have you guys heard of the latest trend on Tiktok and Instagram? People are laying out plastic or something that isn't penetrable, laying compost on it, sow seeds, then roll it up into 'seed snails'. It apparently makes it easier to separate the plants later on, and it holds moisture etc, and removes the need for seed trays. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9AinRRQ89o Have you tried it? I might experiment with that! RE: Seed snails!? - Veggie - 08-02-2025 Just had a quick look - all the videos are too long to hold my attention. I spotted a couple that gave verdicts on how it worked out. I'll watch one of them later. My first thought is that it looks like too much faff for me. I'm too messy and clumsy!. Might work well for cuttings though. Reminded me of the baboushka pots that I tried once! https://gardenandgossip.org/showthread.php?tid=275&highlight=russian+doll RE: Seed snails!? - Small chilli - 08-02-2025 My first (very cynical) thought was another gimmick to reinvent gardening. My second thought was it very similar to the pot thing. Luckily Veggie has remembered the name of it. I also tried it with Veggie and also like Veggie didn’t get on with it. RE: Seed snails!? - SarrissUK - 08-02-2025 I've tried the baboushka pots too, with two smaller pots inside a larger one. It didn't work for me either, and I'd even forgotten about it. I have lots of dog food bags that would work really well for the seed snails, so I'll attempt this in the name of repurposing the plastic ![]() It will have to wait though - I have no urgency to try handling wet compost on my dining table, so it'll wait until I can do it either in the basement or outside. RE: Seed snails!? - JJB - 09-02-2025 Sorry, too much faff. RE: Seed snails!? - Bren - 10-02-2025 I can't see me doing this, I'll stick to plant pots loo rolls instead. |
