What wildlife would do this - JJB - 12-08-2024 I have 2 veg patches with a say 1.5m (5ft) grass path between. Among other things (sweetcorn, onions & courgettes) there's a row of DFB. This morning about 9am I walked around to check on things and in the middle of the grass path was an uprooted DFB. It had come from about 3ft in from the end of the row and was deposited in line with the row of beans. I think it might have happened during the morning rather than overnight as it hadn't wilted much. It wasn't nibbled and beans were attached and untouched. I'm puzzled. I'm wondering whether pigeon, bunny or cat might have got entangled. There are no other sign of nibbling so I don't think I've got another rabbit. RE: What wildlife would do this - Small chilli - 12-08-2024 That is a puzzle. I think your entanglement idea is a good one. But as to who or what. I have no idea. Can you put a trail cam up ? RE: What wildlife would do this - Veggie - 12-08-2024 I think its a bird, like a crow/magpie, that thought the bean was a juicy worm. Can you put a trail cam up ? Could do but haven't got one. If it happens again I can borrow one from the Library of Things like we did last year when we had a rabbit invasion. Looking at the gap where the plant was there's a smal depression like a cat might have scratched then been frightened away and took the bean plant with it. Anyway all is well this morning, no further disturbance. It could have been the long haired, long tailed, long horned purple people bean eater. RE: What wildlife would do this - Veggie - 13-08-2024 Don't you mean the Long tailed flashy scratchy grabby sneaky screechy flying purple bean eater? Probably, but I thought you got those in Wales |
