G&G genius ideas squad needed - Small chilli - 28-07-2024

Hopefully you’ll be able to follow my thinking! So you can help.

I have these [attachment=7771] 5m long 31cm wide. The plan is to keep them full length. cut them in half length ways (not all of them, som have other jobs). Use them as sheltered , slightly raised beds between my tunnels. If you can imagine the hosepipe in the next photo is the sides of my tunnels. I can make the gap between tunnels bigger if needed. The more I do that the least space I have for normal raised beds the other side.
[attachment=7772] I have lots of these cradles for them to sit in. My first plan was to cut the cradles at the red lines and have a small pyramid type arrangement. With top cradle sitting on top of the bottom pipe beds. As the cradle is only 6cm wide I wouldn’t lose much growing space. Also the pipes once cut in half and are in the cradle sit 6cm higher [attachment=7773] [attachment=7776]. Hopefully these 2 photo helps paint that picture, but possibly not. My next thought was is that top pipe going to shade the bottom ones too much?
Considered a teared style not sure how to construct that. One thing I probably should have mentioned sooner is, it’s all very heavy! Before compost gets involved. Also considered use 2 at the same level.

I have these other bits available in the construction if you can come up with anything.
[attachment=7774] [attachment=7775] Unfortunately all the small pipe has been cut down to about 2m lengths

Any ideas, suggestions? Would be great. My brain is starting to hurt!

What are you planning to grow in them? 15cm of soil max is not very deep.

Salad things mostly, and possible strawberries

I like a puzzle. Big Grin
I'm not convinced by the idea of one on top of two pipes. It seems to me that the top pipe would overhang/shade about a third of the ones underneath. May also get in the way of "taller" crops trying to grow upwards/picking.

I quit agree. That’s why I’m veering away from that idea.

IF you were thinking of staggering them in height, I'd put one on top of the other alongside the tunnel with a path between........
Like this............PT,/2 pipes/path/2 pipes/PT.
Not sure that would work with the cradles though??

Unfortunately the link isn’t working. I would like to of seen that. I was thinking of staggering in high. But concerned about the weight. I can only just move a pipe. Definitely can’t lift one.

Its not a Link - I was trying to show the order in which I'd put the pipes between the tunnels!

Something to bear in mind is that it will take almost 380 litres of compost to fill a single tube (not cut in half).

I would try to figure out a way to turn them into water reservoirs which pots can sit in or on top of, like a very long, cylindrical Quadgrow. That would really cut down on the compost needed.

Oh  Blush . I see it now   Big Grin . PT confused me  Blush . I do struggle with some really simple and obvious abbreviation    Rolleyes . That could work.
