Coir - JJB - 04-02-2024

Has anyone found  a reasonably priced source for coir. My last year's source of Poundland and Wilko seem to be a nonstarter this year.  Ebay are taking the Michael, selling what used to be a £1 10L brick for £5.99!

Thanks Veggie.

Spending a dull drizzly afternoon trawling the Web has come up with the cheapest at 75L for £11.20 free p&p

I'll need some perlite too so will have to cost it up to see if it might be better buying in peat free compost (if i go peat free), but that won't be half as much fun.
20L perlite free p&p for £13 on Ebay.

Can't believe how much the price of coir has rocketed in recent years. We were buying the big blocks for £5 or less back in 2020.

Cheapest I can find is Elixir Gardens, though only if you order multiple blocks - 5 x 70L blocks for £45 for example. Use the newsletter code elixir10 to get 10% off. Delivery is free.

I got 100L of perlite from eBay £23.50 delivered last week. Smaller bags are always way overpriced.

That's worth looking at.

I've never used perlite but I do have a sack of vermiculite leftover from when the Aga was installed. I mix some of that into the coir when I remember.

Just a heads up for the coir stockpilers, like me. Smile
My coir blocks have been stacked just inside the up-and-over garage door. The door is rarely opened as I use the side door to access the garage.
However, today the main door was opened and, to my surprise, the bottom blocks of coir had started to expand and the cardboard boxes had disintegrated! Rain must have driven under the door and been sucked up by the coir. Three blocks were badly damaged so I've shovelled them into dustbins where they can stay until I need the coir. There are 2 more blocks with signs of damp but they're further away from the door so can wait a while until I find another bin.
