I still have water butts but when it rains they are always overflowing. I’ve thought about fitting fans in the down pipes to generate electricity It would probably generate more power than PV around here. These are used for watering greenhouse stuff and for initial watering of outdoor plantings until they are established. In desperate conditions we sometimes use grey water , only as a last resort use the hose - that costs money! We have been known to pump bath water into storage butt.
