GM tomato - Vinny - 29-07-2023 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-66340849 I won't be queue-ing up for this one I am afraid! RE: GM tomato - Veggie - 29-07-2023 So they crossed a tomato with a snapdragon and bred a purple tomato! Seems pointless when purple tomatoes already exist. If they'd bred a purple dragon it may have been worthwhile. RE: GM tomato - Small chilli - 29-07-2023 I’m with you two on this. It’s buggering about with nature just because they can. I see no benefit from it at all. Apart from the spoiled brat syndrome “look what I can do” . RE: GM tomato - toomanytommytoes - 29-07-2023 Probably just a novelty. Most purple tomatoes don't taste very nice to me and I'd prefer to eat berries for anthocyanins. "Liz O'Neill from the campaign group GM Freeze said tomatoes are red for a reason." - Liz clearly needs to expand her tomato horizons. RE: GM tomato - Vinny - 29-07-2023 As far as I know they are all members of the 'Nightshade' (Solonacaea) family so red would be a warning I imagine? Having said that, in a potato, green would do you harm! RE: GM tomato - Veggie - 29-07-2023 Deadly Nightshade fruits are black/purple - the same colour as the GM tomatoes! RE: GM tomato - Mark_Riga - 29-07-2023 "The scientists in Norwich that developed the purple tomato have now set up a company in California called Norfolk Healthy Produce. They hope to sell its concept." Looks like the real reason. |
