The dregs in jars - Veggie - 12-07-2023 What do you do with the last bits of food that linger inside a jar? I have a flexible scraper thingy that pulls the last of the jam etc out of the jar. If its a pasta/curry sauce, I add some hot water, give the jar a shake and add it to the cooking pot. Nothing complicated. However, tonight I saw this https://wickedleeks.riverford.co.uk/lifestyle/how-to-turn-condiment-leftovers-into-dressings/ RE: The dregs in jars - Vinny - 12-07-2023 Sounds sensible to me! RE: The dregs in jars - Small chilli - 13-07-2023 I do the same as you Veggie. Some good ideas in that link. Not thought about making dressings. RE: The dregs in jars - Knotty - 13-07-2023 We just swish it out with water to add last dregs. Half the time though my problem is getting the lids off in the first place! RE: The dregs in jars - JJB - 13-07-2023 If the dregs are sweet they are fed to P in a spoon or on his pud. If they're salty (except for Marmite) they're mine. I usually forget that opened jar of pesto which goes mouldy on the top shelf of the fridge at the back (which I can neither see nor reach). I can't count the number of mouldy pesto jars that have been binned, it's sacrilege. RE: The dregs in jars - Veggie - 13-07-2023 ........and a campaign for standard size jars that any lid will fit.............and for jars that don't have inaccessible bits either at the shoulders (like Marmite and peanut butter) or hexagonal shapes that look pretty but are a pain to empty. RE: The dregs in jars - Vinny - 13-07-2023 I didn't used to label any jams or chutneys I made (I do now!) I usually take the lid off older ones having no idea what lies within? I'll have a taste with a teaspoon and if it tastes ok will add it to somethig I am cooking, still having just a vague idea of what I am adding! |
