Basket Making - Scarlet - 13-02-2023 I love trying new things and have a friend who always buys presents - Im pretty useless at that hate spending money just because of a certain date. So over the years we've come to a compromise - we do a day out instead. Last year we booked jekka herbs, Kew Gardens and David Austin roses. Friday we went on a basket making course - a guy local to me. We had a fabulous day. Pretty chuffed with my basket - Im sure it will come in handy [attachment=5821][attachment=5822][attachment=5823] RE: Basket Making - Broadway - 13-02-2023 Very nice Scarlet RE: Basket Making - Admin - 13-02-2023 I will have a trug please RE: Basket Making - JJB - 13-02-2023 Beautiful. Does that mean you're now a basket case Scarlet? RE: Basket Making - Scarlet - 13-02-2023 (13-02-2023, 07:46 PM)JJB Wrote: Beautiful.Yep! Nothing new there RE: Basket Making - Can the Man - 14-02-2023 Congratulations Scarlet, great to see an old craft being revived. I’m sure you will make many more in the near future. Perfect for presenting presents from the garden to family and friends RE: Basket Making - Small chilli - 14-02-2023 It’s something I’ve wanted to try over the last few years. I’ve made small baskets out of reeds. Obviously when I was in Somerset where every other village has a basket weaves, courses and all the equipment (willow, mostly). I wasn’t that interested. In fact there was one such place on the road to visit Bobs mum. Last summer I looked in to ordering willow for winter wreaths and never bothered.... this guy is about 6 miles from me and said I was welcome to pop in at anytime. He did a year as an apprentice in 1985 - noone was interested- he said now, especially after covid and the lack of plastic bags that people are looking at more sustainable options and things are changing. He would have never made a living out of it to support a family etc - but the kids have flown and he is taking early retirement to enjoy the good things. I am going to try making hoops out of bramble - the thick stuff. RE: Basket Making - Scarlet - 14-02-2023 He also said that willow is becoming hard to get - all the willow growers are now weaving natural coffins. RE: Basket Making - Bren - 14-02-2023 I do like your basket Scarlet especially the banding that's a nice effect. I've still got the one I took to school when it was cookery. |
