Curcuma longa (Turmeric) - Farendwoman - 11-06-2022 just bought reduced cucurma “Longa” in Homebase. Two rhizomes in a bag for 20p instead of £4.45 Anybody grown this and got any tips? I actually got three bags and they only charged me forty pence. RE: Curcuma longa (Turmeric) - Veggie - 11-06-2022 I really miss Homebase plant bargains. I bought a tuber thingy from Sainsburys produce counter but it didn't grow. RE: Curcuma longa (Turmeric) - Farendwoman - 11-06-2022 These already have inch long sprouts. RE: Curcuma longa (Turmeric) - Veggie - 11-06-2022 Then you're off to a head start, FEW. Lots of websites with growing advice - but most of it seems to be put it in a pot. It could be another indoor plant for your collection. RE: Curcuma longa (Turmeric) - Vinny - 11-06-2022 I tried growing it once but it wasn't worth the bother. I got less corms from the pot than the ones I started with! RE: Curcuma longa (Turmeric) - Veggie - 11-06-2022 Are you thinking of Saffron, Vinny? Mine just faded away to nothing. RE: Curcuma longa (Turmeric) - Farendwoman - 11-06-2022 No wonder they reduced it to 20 pence then. Not sure I’d know how to use it even if I manage to harvest some. Mine just faded away to nothing.Nope, I sent away for Turmeric tubers and grew those on the windowsill Quite a decorative plant from what I remember but not worth the effort for me. I have swallowed turmeric and pepper capsules daily for years now and feel it does some good for my osteoarthritis, but as far as growing my own, no thanks! I thought saffron was from crocus veggie? RE: Curcuma longa (Turmeric) - Veggie - 12-06-2022 Yes, Saffron is a crocus but you confused me with "corms".
