Hanging Basket advice - Broadway - 03-05-2022 Hi Folks I'm planting up some baskets tomorrow for Mrs B and wondered if I need to add anything to the store bought compost, say some bfb? RE: Hanging Basket advice - PyreneesPlot - 03-05-2022 I stick some slow release organic fertiliser pellets into mine if I have any. RE: Hanging Basket advice - Broadway - 03-05-2022 Does anyone think a layer/lining of comfrey leaves would be worth adding? RE: Hanging Basket advice - PyreneesPlot - 03-05-2022 I guess so (to the chicken manure)!! Mine get a liquid feed once a week, too. RE: Hanging Basket advice - Spec - 03-05-2022 In the past I used slow release fertiliser, but I now mix in BFB when making up the compost, then after about six weeks I start giving a home made liquid feed, (comfry/banana, solution) at least once a week, but depending on how the plants look, this kep them going into October last year, as adding a layer of comfrey leaves, I don't know how that would do but if you don't try you will never know RE: Hanging Basket advice - Broadway - 04-05-2022 (03-05-2022, 10:41 PM)Spec Wrote: In the past I used slow release fertiliser, but I now mix in BFB when making up the compost, then after about six weeks I start giving a home made liquid feed, (comfry/banana, solution) at least once a week, but depending on how the plants look, this kep them going into October last year, as adding a layer of comfrey leaves, I don't know how that would do but if you don't try you will never knowCheers Spec RE: Hanging Basket advice - PyreneesPlot - 04-05-2022 I put comfrey leaves in half the planting holes for my tomatoes a few years ago, but don't recall any difference in the growth or cropping of the treated ones. RE: Hanging Basket advice - Jimny14 - 04-05-2022 How about something for water retention? Some lumps of old sponge maybe? RE: Hanging Basket advice - Spec - 04-05-2022 As Jimny has suggested I have used bits of sponge mixed into the compost, I have also used wads of paper to hold the moisture, not sure if that worked as I had also installed a watering system which makes for an easier time |
