crop rotation help - Norfolk Grey - 03-02-2022 Hi all, hope you are good. Yes I am back 5 seconds and all ready after help, but hopefully most of you know I already love ya or I wouldn't ask (even if it has been longtime, no see) Okay, confession time. My gardening efforts have diminished over the last several years to the point I can't even remember my crop rotation. I know I do four groups (P&B, Brassicas, Roots and Onions/Squash/Corn) What I would like help with is where you think the last 2 groups should go and why? So option 1:- 1. P&B 2. Brassicas 3. Roots 4. Onions/Squash/Corn option 2 :- 1. P&B 2. Brassicas 3. Onions/Squash/Corn 4. Roots Many thanks as always RE: crop rotation help - Veggie - 03-02-2022 Lovely to see you, NG xx As for crop rotation...........Duh!! No idea. I'm still a just bung it in sorta gardener. RE: crop rotation help - Norfolk Grey - 03-02-2022 Thank you Veggie. I have been trying to have a little catch up and the most obvious constant is you are still nutty and the sun still shines on you and your garden. (daffs in Jan???) x RE: crop rotation help - Veggie - 03-02-2022 Sorry to disappoint you, but the daffs didn't flower until 1st February this year. Laggards. RE: crop rotation help - Norfolk Grey - 03-02-2022 ^^^In all fairness I am still stuck in January. The January/ winter blues are still biting me in the bottom. Grrrr!!!! I am able to laugh about it though so it can't be all bad x RE: crop rotation help - Vinny - 03-02-2022 My feelings are that crop rotation is for farmers who practice monoculture on whole fields, where I can see it would do some good! I'm a 'Just don't follow like with like' type of person, if possible? There are two types of crrop rotation, annual crop rotation and true crop rotation (which is basically don't follow like with like) I don't think I am as random as Veggie though as I do sometimes plant in straight rows! RE: crop rotation help - Norfolk Grey - 03-02-2022 ^^^what are rows??? RE: crop rotation help - Admin - 03-02-2022 The only crop I rotate are onions....as Vinny suggests, we don't grow on an agricultural scale. Nice to know you are still around RE: crop rotation help - Bren - 03-02-2022 I move my brassicas to the next bed along then everything else gets planted in a different space to last year. The only onions I grow are spring onions they're grown in modules then get planted in any gaps. This seems to work for me. RE: crop rotation help - SarrissUK - 03-02-2022 I don't rotate either generally speaking, only if I can remember. I have never had much problems with pests either. Welcome back NG |
