Hairy Bittercress - Veggie - 26-01-2022 Most of us think that Hairy Bittercress is a weed, one that spreads easily and springs up everywhere that you don't want it. Think again before you weed it out. Its actually an edible plant - one that's worth tasting too. There's a good article about identification and use at https://www.wildfooduk.com/edible-wild-plants/hairy-bittercress/ Next time you see some, have a little nibble. RE: Hairy Bittercress - SarrissUK - 26-01-2022 Ooh I'll try to remember! Thank you RE: Hairy Bittercress - JJB - 27-01-2022 I have a carpet of it in the fruit cage, plants are so tiny though and flower before they're big enough to pick any leaves, might try a nibble but not going to let it live if I've got a chance. RE: Hairy Bittercress - Moth - 27-01-2022 I've tried it, it's very like rocket. I don't like the bitter taste of either. Maybe cooked it would be less bitter. RE: Hairy Bittercress - Garrett - 27-01-2022 I grow this for my tortoise. Haven't tried it myself though. RE: Hairy Bittercress - Bren - 28-01-2022 I'd never heard of Hairy Bittercress looking at Veggies link I've been growing it in my garden for years the seed packet says Land cress i eat it most days amongst my other salad leaves. RE: Hairy Bittercress - Veggie - 28-01-2022 Bren, I think that Land cress that is grown from seed packets is a bigger version of Hairy Bittercress - longer stems, bigger leaves, easier to pick!. I remember hearing that Hairy Bittercress is neither Hairy or Bitter, so why it has the name is a mystery. |
