Hostas - Moth - 05-01-2022 I've just read that you can eat hostas. https://www.foodforest.garden/2012/05/07/hostas/ https://www.ruralsprout.com/eat-hostas/ Has anyone tried them? Do they taste good enough to be worth while? My garden is shady most of the time so hostas would be very happy here if I could keep slugs away from them (and I've heard that wood chip mulch keeps slugs down around them). If they taste good, I'd give it a go. In fact I may try growing them anyway. RE: Hostas - PyreneesPlot - 05-01-2022 Well, if they're good enough for every slug and snail within a five K radius ... But I might be having a taste of mine when they come through in the spring Love the word hoston! RE: Hostas - JJB - 05-01-2022 Who'd a thought! Might have a nibble when they come up. Shame I chuckled two pots full out last year, I just got fed up with the slugs. RE: Hostas - Bren - 05-01-2022 When we had the pond I grew Hostas but after filling it in to make veg beds the slugs soon came back and munched on them. RE: Hostas - Garrett - 05-01-2022 I've never tried them but my tortoise likes them. I give him any nibbled leaves I find. RE: Hostas - Veggie - 05-01-2022 I don't grow them because of the slugs but if Alan Carter in his Scottish Forest Garden says they're edible, they will be. RE: Hostas - Scarlet - 06-01-2022 I don't grow them because of slugs as well!! But when I set my cattle trough pond up I may give a couple in pots a go. |
