RE: 2022 - What I did today - SarrissUK - 12-06-2022

Today was set aside for horse manure and nothing much else. I went to pick up six bags from a lady in a nearby village, brought that back, then took all my empty bags with me and went to another village for well rotted stuff. My goodness, there's loads and it's old, black and crumbly, and I could take as much as I wanted! I totally filled my poor car, and it was on its knees on the way home. I barrowed it all into the back garden and finished off the bed I started a while ago, and then started a new, massive bed on the left hand side of the garden. Wonderful Smile
Then Jay had made plans with his daughter, so I had to stop play and go have a meal with them, then returned into my gardening clothes and planted out a raspberry - a golden autumn rasp. It will be interesting to see what that's like. I've never had one of them before.
I also got all my yellow french beans out - they were well overdue to be planted out. Very good day indeed.

Yesterday was a bit of a slow day so only managed to potter - armpitted the tomatoes and looped them up their strings, started pulling the nigella and blue honeywort from the gravel in front of the house. I'll just leave a few nigella pods to reseed.
Voted - that's three times this year, just one more round to go next week! Voting is a social occasion in a small commune like this which probably explains why we had 80% turnout compared to 50% nationally.

I had to chuck the shading on the gh yesterday and it looks like temps are ramping up down here during the week. They're threatening 30°

Quite a productive morning. I planted 2 of the 4 toscana strawberries grown from seed supplied by SC, thanks SC the flowers are so pretty. Planted 2 konsa cucumbers outside, one climbing up the outside of the fruitcage and the other up the side of gh1. Tied in and elbowed what seems to be far too many tomato plants. Gave each tromba a bit of extra support by the way of an 8ft cane tied into the climbing frame. Planted 4 spare sprouting begonia corms in a shadyish spot. Rejigged the top cage raspberry supports, trying to include all the wayward canes within the supports. Then lunch.

Shredded all the cut down saplings and filled a large dustbin with the shreddings. I'll leave it there to compost a bit as there's not enough to make a meaningful difference to any of the paths. Its great for jumpstarting the Hotbin.
Weeded the path from the house to the GHs. Its mostly slabs and shingle but you could hardly see the stones for weeds and grass.
Did a bit of apple thinning - knocking out the tiny apples to give the rest a chance to grow.

Busy day with the heatwave starting tomorrow and building to a forecast 40 degrees, today was the last chance to get much done.
Watered.
Planted out lettuces, aubergines, peppers, chillies, beetroot & cucumbers. Dug the holes, filled with water, planted, watered again & mulched. Hopefully that'll be enough.
Finished clearing nigella & blue honeywort.
Weeded herb bed.
Cut back wild wisteria stems.

Wow 40° PP, and here's me fretting about 30.

I’d be happy with 18 degrees! It’s like bl00dy November.

Today I’ve started the elderflower champagne. Watered tunnels. Put delphiniums & rose bud in a vase after they snapped with the wind & rain! Gutted about the rose. It was the first bud on a plant from a cutting I took last year. Also loaded the trailer with scaffolding.

It'll be the first time Sad
We've had 39° a few times, it's pretty unbearable especially at night, but it depends how humid it is. Silver lining,  the RA is better with the heat!

Right, first task, watering & filling up the bird baths.
