After work I went out and painted the last bit of the fence that will more or less be inaccessible once the greenhouse is up. I painted the side facing the field tonight, so we can put up the chicken wire, so we can keep the poodle in! She frightens the villagers that walk their dogs on the field when she squeezes out and yaps at them lol

Bought some wooden posts and 2"x1" treated timber to mane supports for climbing beans and sweet peas. Seem to think they were nearly double what I paid a couple of years ago.
Then planted out my potatoes for next year's seed (7 varieties) and a short row of broadbeans, some had 2 or 3 stems coming not sure if that is good or bad.

Finished my little dry stone wall at the front of the house. Yaaaay! Cool I had enough stones to build it , now I have to figure out what to do with all the smaller stones I have left??? Huh I can feel a garden sculpture coming on! Big Grin

I potted up my tomatoes, putting aside a dozen for my siblings to pick over next time they visit. Discovered a few set fruits on the Veranda Red!

Such a nice day, everything was put outside to get some sunshine.

I went out in the garden after work and barrowed some more broken up concrete, from the path between the potting shed and the summer house this time. It's going to be a prime place to grow veggies there, so it has to be cleared.

I would've done something on the greenhouse, but it's a two man job to put the frame together so....

Plenty of watering to do too.

Decided to nuke my onion bed today as you could hardly differentiate between the sets and weeds.

I've move the sets to modules for now(hope they are not too shocked), next step is a quick weed/feed of the bed then cover with cardboard.

I will then replant the sets through the card if they look ok.

I also have some Ailsa Craig,  Zebrune, & Long Red Florence seedlings/transplants to go in the bed.

Can anyone advise how deep to plant the transplants?

Ideally they should be about the same depth as they were, may be slightly lower but not too much. Planting through card would make it a bit awkward but should keep the roots damp even if not too deep in the soil . I wouldn't plant them out now till there would be at least a couple of inches of leaf above the card.

I was going to plant out my peas today but it was rather windy and I thought it would be too drying both on the roots while I was planting and on the leaves immediately after planting. I'll wait till it is a lot calmer. I prepared the ground for the peas (removed as much couch and other perennials as I could find then hoes/raked). I planted out some cabbage/cauli/broccoli yesterday and it was too windy to cover with netting so just used fleece to protect from birds for now. Potted up a few more of the cabbage tribe. Thought about doing some more but had a cup of tea instead.

Cleared more chard/spinach from the GH to make room for tomatoes.
Cut down dead stems of mint and did some weeding along the paths - the usual stuff - bramble, nettles, cow parsley getting ready to flower and spread everywhere, white comfrey already flowering. Its the usual story - everything is good in moderation but when it tries for garden domination, its unwelcome.

Weeded the tops of each veg bed, yesterday; they're planted with a blackcurrant, strawberries and various flowers. Thinned the blue honeywort which is rampant.
Sorted the veg seedlings into to be repotted now or wait a while.
Slowly & carefully removed blanket weed from the pond.
