2022 - Plans and hopes. - Veggie - 25-09-2021
The garden is starting to go into autumn /winter mode as leaves start to fall and annuals die back. Its a good time to wander around and appraise your plot.
What worked, what didn't. What needs removing or cutting back. Where there are unwanted gaps that need filling. Plants that need to be moved to a better position. The list goes on.
Have a mooch round and see what strikes you - and share your thoughts with us.

I had thought earlier this would be a good type of thread as a reminder what to get on with next season. Thanks Veggie.
I've chopped down all the brown in the flower bed this morning and feel the need to move phlox, crocosmia, pinks and day lillies to better places so they're not so intermingled. I've resolved to sow beans, peas, courgettes and corn in two batches to extend the growing season. I've found several bags of 2 yr old shreddings/leaves which have formed lovely mulch which will go into the borders of gh2 when I remove the toms to improve the soil.

I am in the search for well rotted manure and if I find it, I'm laying all the veg beds before winter.
I am not sure how much I can grow, but loads, I'm sure
I have definite plans of laying a path and I'm hoping to take Veggie's approach and scroungers them for free over the next year.
I'm also taking up a fair bit of concrete that is in the wrong place.
Other than that, I'm planning to wait and see what comes up

Here's my starter list!
Clear all the grass that grows on the paths in the middle part of the garden - no more mowing. Control by raking/tumbleweeding. About half done now.
Move palletbox that sits in middle of grass onto a veg bed - to make mowing simpler.
Finish making new veg bed & green manure it with old lettuce/chard/kale seeds overwinter.
Cut back brambles around the sides of garden.
Plant rhubarb in a new area.
Lower height of fruit trees and thin branches.
Cut down sweet chestnut tree in middle of garden - growing too big/shade - no sign of nuts and I don't really like the anyway!
Grow more flowers.
Take more cuttings.
Pull up Montbretia (never ending struggle).
Reduce flowerpots stash- nobody needs this many.

I think my 2022 plans for this garden are to shut it down completely. Just try to keep on top of mowing and keep it tidy.

Flowerpots are like beehive supers, you always have too many except when you don't have enough.
I need to grow more late summer/autumn flowering perennials. Everything seems to finish flowering around the middle of August, except for fuchsias and verbena bonariensis.

I really like these - I think they're Rudbeckia. Picked up the plants at a charity plant sale. They've been flowering for weeks. Hoping to save seeds as I'm guessing its an annual. Will be growing more of these next year.
